What does NATO stand for during the cold war?

They stand for the same thing they do now politically correct popular beliefs and feel good legislation. NATO is about as worthless as anything I have ever seen when it comes to its intended purpose but it is a good way to get a few nations together to bluff other nations into doing what the world wants.
